Tips from the Comic World

January 2nd, 2009 · by matt

I recently watched a video discussion on RooftopComedy.com about how comedians are using the internet and mobile distribution to develop their careers.  The video is an hour long.  Here are some summary points:

-What worked in radio didn’t work for TV, and what worked for TV doesn’t necessary work for the Internet or mobile.  The new talent adapts to the new medium.

-For mobile, there is a 2 minute consumption time for content.  (What can musicians do with this knowledge?  Obviously ringtones. Short videos too?)

-Despite new tools that are developed from time to time, it will always take significant effort to successfully market yourself over the web.

-Think about these points for your web or mobile content:  (1) How consumable is it on the web?  (2) How can I better use the web or mobile to interact with fans and build a community?
